Call for Workshop Proposals

The EMPOWER Conference is a yearly technical gathering of three days, aiming to bring together all parties involved in the Assistive Technology (AT) industry, including researchers, user organisations, businesses, and policymakers. This year, it will be held on October 17-19, 2024, at the National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH), Thiruvananthapuram and the workshop will be held on Day 1 (October 17, 2024).

We are happy to invite you to submit a proposal for conducting workshops at EMPOWER 2024.

Workshop shall have topics relevant to the AT community including design, systems and tools relevant to and including people with disabilities focusing on enabling technologies or technology used by people with disabilities. A typical workshop session is expected to generate ideas that can be built upon further by the AT community. Proposals are to be mailed to empower2024@nish.ac.in as a PDF or Word document.

Workshop Submission Format

The workshop proposal must include the following:

• Upload an abstract (max 500 words) as PDF or Word Document
• Upload the detailed proposal as PDF or Word Document
• Who can attend? (level of the participants: beginners/intermediate/advanced)
• Workshop flow (an outline of the presentation)
• Duration of the workshop (Half-day (3 hours) or full-day (6 hours))
• Number of Presenters
• Maximum number of participants to be accommodated (20/30/40/50)
• Expected Takeaways/Outcomes
• References
• Prerequisites for the participants – Is any background preparation required by the participants? If yes, please specify.
• Logistics, if required, please specify (materials, infrastructure, hardware, software, etc., or any additional requirement to be provided)
• A brief description of the facilitator’s background, including his/her expertise on the topic.
• Upload a two-minute video presentation on the topic.
